In 2019 I traveled to Kenya for Rotary Day at the UN in Nairobi. Of course I found time for a brief safari in the Masai Mara. In 2024, I returned with Yosi to experience this remarkable, resilient country.

The Animals of Kenya – 2024

29 orphaned baby elephants live at the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, together with two black rhinos. Most of the elephants will ultimately go back into the wild.







This Nile crocodile was probably about 7 feet long. He twitched and we bolted.








Jackels are pretty and delicate looking, but don’t underestimate them




The Nairobi Giraffe Center gives people a chance to get up close and personal with rescued giraffes.

Striped mongoose – very habituated at the site of the Bush Breakfast. Sort of like cats.


To the left, Kenya and the Maasai Mara. To the right, Tanzania and the Serengeti. You aren’t allowed to step across the border, so of course everyone does.
