Creatures

The joy of a bird in flight – the curious head tilt of a dog – the grace of a horse in the field – the power of a lion bringing down its prey.  A good animal photo captures the image and the personality of the smallest backyard sparrow or the largest savannah resident. Capturing the bond between a friend and her horse brings a smile to all who know them. Enjoy these galleries and watch these animal collections grow.

    Backyard Bugs

Although tiny, my backyard is an ecosystem designed to support urban wildlife. A small waterfall cascades down a (very short) rose-lined bank. Pollinator plants buzz with bees from the neighbor’s hives. Opossum, skunks, chipmunks, squirrels and the occasional coyote amble through. The bugs are more inclined to pose.

    Critters

I have been fascinated with animals since elementary school days, when I would stuff my lunch box with leopard frogs from the nearby spring. My mother was not amused. While the herd has been disbanded, the training and bloodlines live

    Izmir, Alma and Other Horses

I started riding fairly late in life, and have treasured the years that I have spent learning how to do these beautiful animals justice. I never wanted a gray horse but somehow I have ended up with two: Alma, a Lipizzan, and Izmir, an Arabian. Sandy showing her Lipizzan Barmima
